Signs of a Faulty 87H91 Limit Control

A faulty 87H91 limit switch can cause the furnace burners to shut off unexpectedly, prevent the burners from operating, or produce an open-limit fault even when the furnace is not overheating.

If the switch remains open after the furnace has cooled below its reset temperature, the 87H91 may have failed. Repeated limit trips can also be caused by an airflow problem such as a dirty filter, restricted ductwork or blower problem and do not necessarily mean the limit itself is bad.
